Kaston and I found these really nifty little spanish-style townhomes in Carrollton that are very reasonably priced. We both think that one of them would make a perfect starter home for us; we’re really excited about it! Anyhow, here are some pictures (some are from the MLS realty database, some I took).

So that 2nd picture — is that looking out the front or back door at a gravel courtyard? You could do cute things with plants, or even some faux painting on the courtyard wall. I like the balcony overlooking — what –living room? The mirrored wall looks like it really opens up the space.

Hey — Carrollton! The guy we just voted in as our new UU minister to start in August worked at the Carrollton UU Church while in seminary. He told a really wonderful story about that church’s response to a transgendered person who kind of fearfully started attending there while in the transition from male to female. The women of the church took “her” under their collective wing — took her clothes shopping, showed her how to use makeup, taught her about the social/cultural expectations for women that you learn growing up as a girl, that “she” didn’t know, since he grew up as a boy.

Looking at those pics again, if I’m understanding the spaces correctly, you could immediately bring lots more light into the living area by replacing the solid door near the fireplace with a mostly-glass door.

Yeah the courtyard is in between the house and the garage and is about a 12×12 space. I can just imagine a jungle back there with ivy climbing the walls.
The balcony does overlook the living area. The entrance is small and ahead is the stairs and to the left is a small hall. At the hall the left is the guest bed and ahead is the guest bath. Still in the small hall, go right to enter the living room with door straight ahead, kitchen to the left and living to the right.
The courtyard is not only a great place for plants, but has 2 storage closets. The only downside is carrying groceries in the rain for the 12 feet or so, but that happens rarely.
Tuesday we get to see the other unit. The owner returned our call and we set up an appointment. This one has the front courtyard pictured in the post. It is also about 200 sq feet bigger with a balcony off of the master suite.
More news as we get it. And YES I have kitten pics, just need to upload them and post.
