		<description>Yep, liquor in Cali stores, too-- and you can buy til 2am, AND on Sundays-- Texas is just nuts. Mom's probably right about the liquor store lobbyists. Bah.

		<description>That's the way it is in New Mexico too. It was kind of startling, when we lived there, to see a full liquor selection in the grocery store. And there were NO liquor stores at all. Maybe some states have a longer history of trying to regulate sales of "hard liquor", which led to free-standing liquor stores. And once those exist, like in Texas, you could probably never get a bill through the legislature to allow more widespread sales beyond beer and wine. The liquor store lobby no doubt has deep pockets and would resist.</description>
