I went to the local Wal-Mart to do some light shopping and decided to check out their wine selection. I was on the phone with Dean at the time so I was only paying attention to the small area I was in front of. As I was scanning to find a palatable wine, I came across this:
IN A WAL-MART! That was very shocking and cool. Why can’t Texas do this? Not that I want to get Jack with my milk evey trip, but it is annoying to drive 20 miles to get some alcohol when we want it. They had a whole selection of “spirits” as they called them:
This was just a random picture I took one morning at breakfast. Try to guess what it is, and Dean you are not allowed to since I told you =)

That’s the way it is in New Mexico too. It was kind of startling, when we lived there, to see a full liquor selection in the grocery store. And there were NO liquor stores at all. Maybe some states have a longer history of trying to regulate sales of “hard liquor”, which led to free-standing liquor stores. And once those exist, like in Texas, you could probably never get a bill through the legislature to allow more widespread sales beyond beer and wine. The liquor store lobby no doubt has deep pockets and would resist.

Yep, liquor in Cali stores, too– and you can buy til 2am, AND on Sundays– Texas is just nuts. Mom’s probably right about the liquor store lobbyists. Bah.
Glad to hear you’re having a great time! I’m very excited for you!

Since no one has tried to guess the third pic, I will tell you. That is the hotel pool!

There’s a pool under there? Guess you won’t be doing any swimming.
