Yesterday Anne called me and she teasingly said, “Contrary to our belief, you are not a hardened criminal!”. She then proceeded to offer me the position of Assistant Manager! I will get a base of $36,000 with up to a 20% bonus every year so I could potentially get $43,200 a year. She then gave me a list of options for training:
- Minneapolis, Minnesota
- Atlanta, Georgia
- Cincinnati, Ohio
- Rochester, New York
- Memphis, Tennessee
- Denver, Colorado
I chose New York as my first pick and Colorado as my second pick. I will leave next Monday (Jan 29th) or the Monday after (Feb 5th). So soon! The sad part is that I will miss Dean and Holli’s birthday AND me and Dean’s 5 year anniversary =( But because BWW is paying for everything and I get stipend pay, I can mail him something. I just hope that I am put up in a nice hotel for the 5 week stent.
I should find out today when and when I will go. I hope that it is the 5th so I have enough time to pack. I will also need to buy another suitcase in order to fit all the stuff I will need. I should make a list so I don’t forget the little things.
After 5 months I finally have a job, our income will almost exactly double, I can start grad school (BWW does tuition reimbursement), we will get our debt paid off, and we will finally be truly on our own; fully grown, self sufficient adults.
It is all so surreal…
UPDATE: Anne Just called and I leave on the 4th (starts 5th) and I did not get either of my choices; I will be going to Omaha Nebraska =( I was hoping to use this trip to see someplace different, not the same ‘ol stuff we have here. I bet it is no different that Dallas. If anyone finds some cool stuff I might enjoy there, let me know.

Hooray, huzzah and congratulations on the job!
And my condolences on 5 weeks in Omaha. Well, I haven’t been there — maybe it’s loverly!
I understand the surreal feeling — this is a major life transition, from student, student, and more student to ADULT WITH A CAREER!
I don’t know what Dean will do for 5 weeks, but at least he’ll have the kitties for company.
Remind me when ya’ll’s anniversary is — I know early March, but forget the date.

March 1st, 2002.
I just posted the signs for “Free Kittens” all around our complex today. I hope to have them all homes by the time I leave, except maybe the runt. He is at least partially deaf from the seizures, and unless we can find a perfect home for him…

According to the website of the Greater Omaha Convention and Visitor’s Bureau
http://www.visitomaha.com/
“$2 billion has been spent to transform the downtown into a Midwestern oasis. New riverfront activities, a historic shopping and dining district, a modern arena and convention facility, museums, a world-class zoo, performing arts, and more make Omaha a first-class destination.”
Through February 11, you could catch a traveling Broadway show — Disney’s The Lion King –

at the Historic Orpheum Theater.

If I were in Omaha on February 9, I would SO go to hear a concert by singer-songwriter Lucy Kaplansky.

Don’t know if you’d like her music, but you can check out some songs on her website. One of my favorites is the song “Scorpion”.

And there’s the Joslyn Art Museum, which looks to have a pretty impressive collection. http://joslyn.org/
Well, that sounds promising!

Can’t resist sharing this interesting info about Lucy Kaplansky…
When Lucy Kaplansky was 18 years old, she shocked her neighbors in the Hyde Park area near the University of Chicago when, instead of going to college, she went to New York City with her boyfriend to become a folk singer. Fifteen years later, having become a clinical psychologist as well as a sought-after duet and harmony singer, she made another surprising decision: she gave up her private practice and her position at a New York hospital to pursue a full-time singing career.
