Well I *was* going to see if I could go to the doctor, but after calling around, there is no way in hell I am! These bastards want $100 JUST for an office visit. I ask them why it was so much, and they said, “don’t worry about it, your insurance will cover it”. I said, “what insurance, because I don’t have any.” They said “oh” and then I hung up.
Crap JUST like this was why my mom died. We did not have insurance and could not afford doctors so she died from complications from a fucking spider bite!
I could drive down to denton and go to the minor emergency place, but to do that I would have to put gas in the car and then I would not be able to afford the visit. If I wanted, I could get an advance on Dean’s next paycheck and easily afford it, but I have something against ME going into debt to pay for someones else’s sports car, 3 story home, or kid’s name brand clothes. THEY should pay ME to come in because they have too much money. Greedy bastards!
Psh! a hundred bucks JUST to sit in a waiting room with sick people only to sit more in a tiny cold room with paper sheets to wait for a doctor that will spend a total of 1 minuet in the room with you. NO ONE is worth 100 bucks a minuet!
I will just continue to take the OTC meds I have and hope for the best

Kaston,
For crying out loud, don’t be so bitter about your Mom’s life that you screw up your own. Go to the doctor. Put it on a credit card. Yes, you’re in debt, but a $100 office visit (and likely that much more for Rx medicine) is cheaper than going to the emergency room and winding up hospitalized with a kidney infection. And how are you going to get a job to bring ya’ll’s income up if you are sick?
GO TO THE DOCTOR.
12 years ago, I had pneumonia, a $22,000 income, 2 children, and no health insurance. I bit the bullet and went to Care Plus drop-in clinic as many times as it took and did several rounds of antibiotics to get well, because I couldn’t afford to get even sicker.
GO TO THE DOCTOR. Don’t be foolish.

Both credit cards are maxed out, plus I am feeling better. I have gone like 4 hours w/o having to pee!
If I have another bad night like last night, I will go.
Pneumonia is a lot more serious than what I have. Plus, when I grew up if we got sick, we got through it w/o medical care, so I guess I am used to that. It just seems wrong to me to pay so much to get a doctor to write me a prescription. I mean, s/he does not even have to diagnose me because I am a classic case. All I need is antibiotics.
Hell, I even called Minor Emergency and asked if the doc could just write me a prescription, but they said no.
I called the local pharmacy and asked (already knowing the answer) if I HAD to have a prescription to get some.
I just cannot justify the cost. Just like you chose a washer and dryer over a honeymoon, I am choosing paying rent over paying an already rich doctor just to scribble an illegible antibiotic name on a piece of paper.
It will be different when we have health insurance because it won’t be me paying them.

Kaston, I really have to agree with Mommiet … without your health you have nothing. And from what I know, which is very little, a UTI if not properly treated can lead to a kidney infection. You don’t want that.
Just because you used to handle your illnesses without medical intrusion doesn’t mean you have to continue that way.
Take care of yourself Kaston … take care of yourself properly.

George is right. UTI can lead to a kidney infection which can lead to the loss of a kidney, lifelong dialysis, lifelong disability. Yes, doctors cost a lot of money. Yes, our health care system is in dire need of reform. But it also costs HUNDREDS of thousands of dollars and 8-10 years of someone’s life to be trained as a doctor, and you’re not paying for just that few minutes of their time. You’re paying for their nurses’ time, their clerks who file insurance claims, their rent, their utilities, their expensive equipment, and their ungodly expensive liability insurance because everyone loves to sue doctors.
