I am filling out the paper work for graduation and I do not know which name I want on my diploma.
I have not yet “legally” changed my name to Kusler and I do not know if that is because I am lazy or if it is my deep rooted feminism that wants me to be proud of my wacky 12 letter last name!
Should I hyphenate it to Kaston Nicole Kolbachinski-Kusler? That would defiantly mean I am the only person in the world with that name lol!
Please put up some suggestions on how I am to resolve this dilemma. How do I even go about making a decision?

Kaston,
Gee — as to changing your name legally (IF you do so), I think all you need to do is notify Social Security of the name you’re using attached to that social security number — then just start using it. (Notify your bank, etc.) I never did anything other than that to change from Vardiman to Kusler, then from Kusler to Smith.
One thing Phil and I jokingly considered when we married was to BOTH use the hyphenated surname Smith-Jones, (Jones being my Mom’s maiden name).
Professionally, I use Harriet Vardiman Smith, not hyphenated, rather just using my maiden name as a middle name, since I have no attachment at all to my actual middle name (Lynn).
I vote for Kaston Kolbachinski Kusler (no hyphen) because of the spectacular initials.
Either that, or both you and Dean could start using the last name, Kolbakuschinskiler. Or Kuskolbachinslerski. Talk about unique!!

The danger of hypenating seems to be the initials thus incurred, as Mom already pointed out.
I’ve heard you say in the past that you were really looking forward to knocking 6 letters off of your last name and keeping the same initials, but I don’t know if that was just you trying to talk yourself into changing it or what.
Oh yeah - one other thing you need to make this decision for. What last name do you want to appear in the special thanks section of the Spy Hunter: Nowhere to Run credits?

Harriet, you should REALLY consider a career in the stand-up industry! You are the funniest 40 something female I know!

I do think I like Kaston Kolbachinski Kusler. I am also not very attached to my middle name of Nicole.
